Kihachiro Onitsuka founded Onitsuka Co., Ltd., the predecessor of ASICS, in 1949 with the desire to support the healthy physical and mental growth of young people through sports. The founding philosophy, "A sound Mind In A Sound Body," has been the source of all ASICS activities since the company’s inception and continues to guide us today. This founding philosophy, combined with our management principles, forms our philosophy, which, along with our vision and six sports principles, is embodied as the "ASICS Spirit."
